Galen Warden: Sailing Through Life on Poems

Galen will read from her poetic work spanning three decades and four tragedies, demonstrating the power of poetry to sail us through stormy seas like a powerful sloop whose trained crew knows when to pull in the sail, turn almost straight into the wind and face the worst of it, tacking and navigating a graceful exit from the storm.

Galen was raised by a single mother on a slim budget, active in the civil rights movement of the 1960's. She also spent vacations with her father in Connecticut's suburbs, complete with yacht clubs and sailing trips.  This dual citizenship of privilege and humble means provided Galen a rare opportunity to develop an informed opinion of the world and her place in it. She has been both an artist and a poet all of her life. From the bonfires of adolescence through the maze of raising six children, and in the soaring flights of grown-up adventures, poetry has been a constant vehicle for catharsis, communication and celebration.

Galen's poetry and art have been published in the anthology: The Rift: Poets of the Palisades (2010), Sensations Magazine, Lips, The Paterson Literary Review, the Ever Dancing Muse, Get Satisfied: How 20 People Like You Found the Satisfaction of Enough, as well as in the Icelandic publications The Book of Hope and The World Book of Healing, plus several chapbooks (hers and others).  Galen resides in Rockaway, NJ, with her youngest son, James and Wayne Schrengohst, and is a marketing manager for LexisNexis. Her blog, Bee Dreams, contains reflections in the mirrors of motherhood, work life, art and poetry, and can be found at www.mamagalen.blogspot.comYou can reach Galen at:
