Call for Women Poets

In celebration of National Poetry Month in April and Mother’s Day in May, a series of round-table readings is being planned throughout Monmouth County NJ.  This event is open to published and unpublished women poets with a maximum of four poets per event.

Interested poets should send name, email address, and phone number with a PDF version of one sample poem, or copy of poem in the body of the email, to TheFaceOfPoetry@mindspring.com (Word or PowerPoint attachments will not be accepted).  Deadline for submissions is April 20, 2012.  Not all poets who submit a sample poem will be included in reading events.  Themes are currently open and all events will be family-friendly.  With a planned two-hour event, each author may be able to read four to five poems, each poem not to be longer than one page in length.

These events have not yet been scheduled.  There will be no compensation provided for the reading event, other than the opportunity to share original works with the community.  If an author is published, books may be provided for sale and signing.

This series is being organized by Suzann Brucato, Author, Matriarch ~ A Journey Through Tradition

As mothers, we are all part of a lineage, a history, brought to us through our culture and traditions.  As daughters, we carry those traditions from one generation to the next.

"For Suzann, family is a quilt tied together by foods and celebrations that live and grow from year to year," says Rosalie Bennett, a New Jersey artist.

An Italian-American woman residing in central New Jersey, Suzann Brucato has created a photo journal as a tribute to motherhood, family, and heritage.  In this full-length collection, Mrs. Brucato conveys the importance of family traditions as a contribution to ensuing generations.  Her home and community experiences bestowed a deep-rooted understanding of traditions through family, faith, foods, and celebrations.  This collection of poems and photographs provides a depiction of the journey of a woman in the eyes of a child, spouse, parent, and grandparent.
