Haiku Workshop - Saturday, Oct. 10

OCTOBER NATIONAL POETRY DAY 2009
POETRY WORKSHOP

New Jersey Poetry Society, Inc.

BEYOND 5 7 5 - Unlocking the Mystery of Haiku

In this poetry workshop, we will unlock the mystery of Haiku, taking it
beyond a 5-7-5 pattern into an art form that is beyond syllabication, poetry
that is as powerful as it is concise. Participants will explore how Haiku acts
as the zoom lens to magnify poignant moments in time; moments which
freshen perceptions of our daily lives as well as the natural world. The
workshop also includes an overview of 3 Japanese Haiku Masters: Basho,
Buson and Issa, as well as the haiku of Nick Virgilio, NJ’s favorite. The
workshop is useful to anyone who has interest in expanding their
knowledge of this ancient art form.

Workshop Leader: Therèse Halscheid, Poet

Therèse’s latest collection of poetry, Uncommon Geography, won a Finalist Award for the Paterson Poetry Prize.
