Zorida was born in Trinidad and immigrated to America at age 18. She graduated from Mercy College with a BA in psychology in 1982, and received an MSW from Fordham University School of Social Work in 1985. She has worked as a social worker for the past 23 years in community mental health in Bergen County, NJ.
Her poems have been published in The Caribbean Writer, Folio, Poem, the Atlanta Review, The Spoon River Poetry Review, Fulcrum #6, Phoebe, Oyez Review, Compass Rose, the Dirty Goat # 20, Bayou Magazine, the Distillery and Quercus Review. Other poems are forthcoming in Fulcrum #7.
Zorida is a member of the Red Wheel Barrow Poets and reads regularly at the William’s Center Second Wednesday’s events. She has been featured at FDU, the Englewood and Rutherford Libraries in NJ. She has also read at the Bowery Poetry Project and The Cornelia Street Café in NY City.
Zorida won a New Jersey State Council on the Arts grant for poetry in 1991-92.
RockStar Poets holds a reading every FIRST MONDAY of the month at 7:30 p. m. at Pianos hosted by poet Doug Jennerich and writer Sanjay Agnihotri. The readings take place on the back stage. Come early and have a drink or dinner. Remember to bring some work of your own as an Open Reading follows the feature.
